Prismacolor Colored Pencils

You've asked to see my basic painting process so here's one example.

I usually start off with a fairly detailed drawing, well after many thumbnail sketches and scribbles (which will never see the light of day! LOL ) Then with watercolors I create a solid foundation for the many layers of colored pencils that's applied on top. This base helps me be able to achieve the deep rich colors that I so love!

Jane Starr Weils Art Prismacolor pencils. They are a lil on the waxy side but they are what I am familiar with.

Jane Starr Weils Art I don't usually use a blending solvent other than grabbing a lighter shade pencil to blend. Prisma color pencil also has a pencil that is labeled "blender" but mostly it's just to waxy so use a lighter shade as I said to blend. Plus when you work up many layers of these pencils, can almost blend them with your finger.

Samanta Vega What numbers are the pencils you use for basic drawing? (I'm in Spain)

Jane Starr Weils Art Samanta, sometimes a 7B for the initial scribbling then an HB or something similar to hone the details.

Jane Starr Weils Art As for brushes, I really don't have a particular brand...I tend to just go "pet" all the brushes (LOL) till one feels just right to me. I do prefer something with a long angled point I would say is a fave brush shape.

Here she is, Spring Solstice Witch! The final in this series of four!

Spring Solstice Witch breathes in the fresh fragrant spring air, a time when the earth blooms in it's renewal. She is surrounded by delicate apple blossoms, rabbits, tulips and daffodils as well as delicate lil robin eggs tucked in carefully crafted nests. On the standing stones is a symbol for life emerging from the earth and she has tucked under her hat a red Anemone in honor of Persephone.

THE LAST W!LD WITCH OR SHAMAN

En este bloc quizá despiste que, mezclados con los artículos sobre recetas, nutrición, etc., también los hay de espiritualidad (animales totémicos, senda chamánica...). Es todo inherente e inextricable a mi naturaleza de brujita de cocina. No obstante, el tema de interés número uno será el de nutrición y salud, pero no desde el punto de vista de una cocinera, o dietista o nutricionista etc. sino desde la visión orgánica y espiritual de una brujita de cocina. En la cocina de las brujas se tienen en cuenta muchas otras cosas.. se trabaja de otra manera.. es una alquimia diferente. Es una runa de fuego, agua, aire y tierra donde conectar con las raíces de la Tierra a través de los alimentos que tan generosamente nos legan sus bondades, propiedades y virtudes, haciéndonos así partícipes del Círculo Verde de la Savia Sabia.

COYOTE: ADAPTING WITH HUMOR AND FLEXIBILITY

Coyotes are persistent survivors, adapting so easily with their diets and habitats. Coyote travels the rough terrain, establishing territories everywhere. He learns his lessons the hard way, keeping a sense of humor about him as he goes. He turns rigid thinking upside down, preferring to keep it light, while adapting in order to survive. He is a humble teacher, a blissed out fool, an accidental genius. His song carries over mountaintops to find his kind. He is persistent, enduring and prolific. Soulfooting, featuring Fox, is about the intuitive process which leads to one's sacred truth. An opening occurs when paws find the path that has been waiting for them. When the right medicine is discovered, the woodland warrioress can rest trusting the unknown. Feminine Fox shapeshifts, allowing magic and mystery into one's soul experience. Finding Soulfooting refers to unearthing your place of sacred comfort inside of your own fur, asking for what you want, and being especially and boldly specific about it. If you've ever had the pleasure of seeing a Fox or it's tail, you know that it is her shining glory. It is FAT, FLUFFY and by far, one of the most beautiful and cozy tails in the animal kingdom. She uses it to curl up into, and keep warm, to navigate with like a rudder, to strut her stuff. Her tail activates instinct, kundalini, sensuality, self-sanctuary, mystique, camouflage.

CHANGE. FOXY MAMA

I knew last Fall that change was coming. I kept referring to 2011 as Year of the Fox without knowing exactly what that meant, and I still don't...exactly. I sit in the ultimate unknown, wondering what aspects of my life will really shapeshift and turn corners, knowing that Fox's giant fluffy tail will comfort me through the moments as change rolls in and over me. All I can do is take refuge and cozy down in my den with my kits when necessary. In this painting, Fox is graceful change. She begins her process opening up to new patterns she may not have considered before. Fox changes herself to bring about a desired situation, not unlike shapeshifting. She may use camouflage or invisibility to burrow under and blend in if necessary, in order to find out how she fits in. She listens carefully, creates comfort all around her, and tunes into her instincts. Her keen perception serves her well when the time comes to make a decision. Fox cozies up and protects herself before she trots off into her new adventure, expecting the unexpected, and willing to be guided. This little vixen is ready for whatever comes next!

STORYTELLER. PINK FOX

Fox is so prominent for me right now. I feel she represents what is growing in my world, in our world. She brings enchanting stories of possibility with her, of the healing energy that makes giant creative leaps possible. In our tribe, Fox is a symbol of family, and the unity and commitment we share as a group. This little one carries a message of what we can experience when we gather together in sacred trust and kinship. I sense that she is off into the woods to have a secret tryst with her comrades, to share stories and learn about herself and the world by communing with her friends.
