APRIL FULL MOON
April’s Full Moon is in Libra, opposite the sun
sign of Aries.
The Full Moon of
April is known as the Full Pink Moon, the Sprouting Grass Moon, Egg Moon, and the
Hare Moon. The hare is a totem of Diana, goddess of the Moon, and represents
springtime and great fertility. If you’ve wondered where the Easter Bunny comes
from, look no further. This ancient symbolism is still alive today.
Terri Windling, founder of the Endicott Studio of Mythic Arts, has an excellent article on The Symbolism of
Rabbits and Hares from
several cultures. She tells us,
In China, for example, the Hare in the
Moon is depicted with a mortar and pestle in which he mixes the elixir of
immortality; he is the messenger of a female moon deity and the guardian of all
wild animals. In Chinese folklore, female hares conceive through the touch of
the full moon’s light (without the need of impregnation by the male), or by
crossing water by moonlight, or licking moonlight from a male hare’s fur.
