Women, Bear Medicine and Shamanism

Shamanism: The Shamanic tradition has prevailed in humans for tens of thousands of years in cultures from all over the ancient world. As well as having a knowledge of the medicinal qualities of plants, other roles of the Shaman required them on occasion to communicate with the otherworld.

Hedge Witch or Hedge Craft: Witchery + Shamanism

In some shamanic cultures (Pawnee, Siberian...), the name used to designate women shaman is the same as the word "bear" or "bear woman". Other examples from the mid-20th century include "Woman Riding a Bear" by Cecilia Arnadjuk. Hedge Witch.
