Coyote medicine: The Sage Foolish.

"I credit parenting, and my personal journey with Coyote for this, because Coyote is one who does what she does and lives through it. There is no such thing as a wrong turn. We may disapppoint or hurt ourselves or others on the path of life, however, what happens, happens. There is no denying it. And no amount of shaming or guilting ourselves about it will bring about justice or balance. It seems that the antidote for life's mishaps and wrong turns is simply to Trust: to trust that there is a reason, that there are valuable teachings on the dark roads. And that none of them have to do with medicating the feelings around the lessons. When open, insights always flow in eventually.

Coyote is no one’s prisoner. However, he bumbles around foolishly, bringing mischief and sometimes misery upon himself because of his mistakes, as folk tales go. He is a laughing Fool and a Trickster, busy for years teaching me about natural consequences, and also about how to be flexible, adaptable, and to be prolific. Coyote has single-handedly helped me rehabilitate the strict no-mistakes-allowed ethic that hitched a ride into adulthood by chuckling into my ear about every experience being an education in awareness.

It was only a decade or two ago that the songstress was particular to the West, but she has since expanded her territory. This is another lesson in keeping on. Though she stops for rest when she needs it, she is who we can call upon when we need endurance to take us all the way home.

COYOTE, ADAPTING WITH HUMOR AND FLEXIBILITY

Coyote is tricky, funny, and adaptable. He offers you his companionship, his celebratory howl, his wit, and teachings of life as they appear without warning. He is the wise and bumbling fool, on a new journey, sometimes learning things the hard way. What makes Coyote such a spectacular companion on what can sometimes feel like a hayride to hell, is his humor. There is magic in his ways, as he gets lost on side roads, scavenges for nourishment wherever he can find it, and amuses himself along the way. Coyotes are very close with their loved ones, snuggling in the den, and cooperatively hunting and parenting. They are nurturing, playful and spirited. Wild, free and never to be extinct, his lesson is one of endurance, longevity and a fulfilled life of meaningful song and dance. Coyote is, in many ways, invincible. Coyote is the trooper, always ready for the journey. Call upon Coyote medicine for vitality, adaptability and humor during the long process of treatment and healing.

TROOPER

This Coyote Spirit is dedicated to the foot soldier in all of us, whom we hopefully do not have to be at all times, yet need to call upon occasionally. Coyotes are persistent survivors, adapting so easily with their diets and habitats. Coyote travels the rough terrain, establishing territories everywhere. He learns his lessons the hard way, keeping a sense of humor about him as he goes. He turns rigid thinking upside down, preferring to keep it light, while adapting in order to survive. He is a humble teacher, a blissed out fool, an accidental genius. His song carries over mountaintops to find his kind. He is persistent, enduring and prolific. There is nothing he can't do, nowhere he won't go. He is fearless. Coyote outlasts bad weather, yipping contentedly through his long days and many journeys."
